'Tis the season for family-friendly films, and the hilarious holiday sequel is a fun ride for both parents and kids. Brad, Dusty, Don and Kurt go to an improv comedy club, where they have a good time until Kurt picking up a woman at the bar annoys Dusty. Brad enters Don into the improv show, and Dusty chooses the topic of a husband confronting his cheating wife as the subject of the skit.

Brad soon wises up when it becomes clear he intends to drive Brad out of his kids' lives and reconcile with Sara. One night, Dusty Mayron, Sara's ex and the kids' biological father, calls discovering Sara's married to Brad, and announces he will be visiting the next day. She hesitates to let him into their home, but Brad convinces her it is important for the kids to see their father and stepfather establish a respectful relationship. Remembering advice given to him by Kurt, Dylan walks toward the girl he has a crush on to kiss her, but instead kisses Adrianna. Brad and Sara reconcile, and Dusty decides to stay and be a good "co-dad" to his kids.

Dusty admits that he cannot handle the hard parts about being a father, and admires Brad for putting up with everything. Brad says that all of the terrible parts about being a dad are worth it, because in the end he is doing it for his kids. This convinces Dusty to go to the dance, and they arrive together. A wacky holiday family comedy, Daddy's Home 2 delivers some good laughs. Mel Gibson and John Lithgow make for great additions to the cast and prove to have good comedic chemistry with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. And the humor mixes satire and physical comedy fairly well; though Ferrell's broad slapstick goes a little too far at times. Also, the plot is pretty formulaic and uses a lot of rather cliched tropes. Yet despite a few weaknesses, Daddy's Home 2 is an entertaining Christmas film.

Done Already? A few more words can help others decide if it's worth watching

'Tis the season for family-friendly films, and DADDY’S HOME 2 is a fun ride for both parents and kids. The stars share why this could-be Christmas classic is a wonderful experience for the holiday. A wacky holiday family comedy, Daddy's Home 2 delivers some good laughs. Mel Gibson and John Lithgow make for great additions to the cast and prove to have good comedic chemistry with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. And the humor mixes satire and physical comedy fairly well; though Ferrell's broad slapstick goes a little too far at times. Also, the plot is pretty formulaic and uses a lot of rather cliched tropes. Yet despite a few weaknesses, Daddy's Home 2 is an entertaining Christmas film.

Dusty now has a job as a Panda DJ, becomes wealthy through his work, has moved in across the street in a castle he built there, and he and Brad are now friends. As Brad's mother arrives, Dusty and Brad discover Brad's new stepfather is Sully Sullenberger, pilot of the 2009 "Miracle on the Hudson" flight. They remember watching the film Sully together recently, and Dusty appears to be happy to see him. Brad seems willing to accept him, but instead runs down the terminal, screaming that Sully will never replace his father and "You only have one good story, my father has a million". Dusty's tough fighter pilot/Space Shuttle astronaut father Kurt and Brad's overbearing and cheerful father, Don, unexpectedly arrive for Christmas.

In January 2017, it was reported that Mel Gibson and John Lithgow were being sought to play the main characters' fathers in the film. The two were later confirmed to star, along with Linda Cardellini, John Cena, Owen Vaccaro and Scarlett Estevez, reprising their roles.
